THE DOBERMAN

Background

In the 1890's Karl Friedrich Louis Doberman, a tax collector who ran his own dog pound in Thuringia Central Germany wanted to create a personal protection dog that was imposing, strong and athletic with great stamina thus creating the Doberman Pinscher.
The Doberman had traditionally cropped ears and docked tails which is now illegal in some countries.
The Doberman was originally classed in the medium breed category but with the European bloodline coming through are now in the Large breed category.
Males can weigh from 40 to 55kg some more Females weighing between 32 to 40 kg.
Males height on average 26 to 29 inches and females 23 to 26 inches.
They are short haired dogs who can suffer from dry skin which adding fish oils to their diet can maintain a healthy shiny coat.
Dobermans are very loyal and intelligent they can be easily trained and make great family pets if their needs are met.
They have high drive and are very athletic and love to run and tend to “think too much” for the average handler therefore need good mental and physical stimulation to cater for the breeds needs.
